February 23, 2000JAPAN-- The economy too serious an issue? Well, it's not the case for Japan's platform-shoe-wearing, miniskirt-clad girl group, Morning Musume.
Not only does their song "Love Machine" sing about the Japanese economy (with the chorus going "Japan's future is bright/The whole world is jealous"), the high-octane song has also topped the charts and has sold over 2 million copies last September. The song brings on a feel-good and positive feeling regarding Japan's economy, it has become the theme song of better times and a much-played number at various companies' New Year parties.
Producer Tsunku, 31, penned and produced the song last summer when Japan's economy is going downhill.
"Everyone was just so bummed out the way things were going. I couldn't write something for them that said 'keep fighting hard' because everyone was already fighting hard," he said during an interview.
Thus he has come up with "Love Machine" and according to him, the song will make the struggling folks go "woah-woah, yeah-yeah" about the good times they will have ahead.
Well, judging from the success of the song, singing about Japan's economy seems a pretty happy thing to do!
■モー娘。「いいとも増刊号」に対抗 <報知>【2000/2/21】テレビ東京の番組改編発表が２１日、東京・渋谷のＮＨＫで行われ、人気アイドルグループ「モーニング娘。」が４月から同局系でバラエティー番組（タイトル未定、日曜・前１１時２５分）に挑戦することが発表された。同局系「モーニング娘。のへそ」（月〜金曜・後５時５５分）に続くレギュラーで３０分番組。同時間帯に放送中のフジテレビ系バラエティー番組「笑っていいとも増刊号」に対抗する。
■モーニング娘。がＣＭ初挑戦 <報知>【2000/2/20】最新シングル「恋のダンスサイト」が１３０万枚を突破するなど、人気絶頂の７人組アイドルグループ「モーニング娘。」が、初めてテレビＣＭ出演することになった。
モー娘。がＣＭ第１弾を飾るのは、ＪＴ（日本たばこ産業）の中国ブレンド茶「飲茶楼」。鮮やかな真紅のチャイナドレスを着た７人が深夜のファミリーレストランに現れるという「ファミレス編」が３月４日からスタートし、今後１年間で２〜３本の続編が放送される予定。
メンバーの安倍なつみ（１８）のソロＣＭが、現在放送中だが、７人全員が出演するＣＭは、今回が初めて。
これまでの同ＣＭでは、雛形あきこ（２２）、鈴木紗理奈（２２）のコンビによるＣＭソングが話題になったが、今回はつんく（３１）プロデュースで、モー娘。が歌うオリジナルＣＭソング（発売予定なし）が流れるという。また３枚目のアルバム（タイトル未定）が３月２９日に発売される。
